In the UK , with specific regard to Perinatal Mental Health:

  • Around 1 in 5 women experience a perinatal mental health problem during pregnancy or within the early postnatal years.

  • 70% will hide or underplay their illness.

  • Every year, the long term costs of a lack of timely access to good quality perinatal mental health care is estimated to be £1.2 billion to the NHS and social services and a further £8.1 billion to society.”

NICE (May 2018) The Perinatal Mental Health Care Pathways:

Regulatory Approach

Our technology is clinical grade. It has been developed for and is being tested in a clinical context.

We’re currently running a clinical trial with the NHS and the University of Nottingham for software that helps mums and their doctors to better measure and manage maternal mental health.

We are working with the NHS to investigate the safety of a  mobile phone app, TrueBlue, for monitoring Depression and Anxiety in people during the perinatal period. We will also be looking at the feasibility, acceptability, usability, validity, reliability  and stakeholder experience of TrueBlue.

We are conducting a multi centre trial (in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire) Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (NHFT) and Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH)

Once the clinical trial is completed, in 18 to 24 months time, we plan to make the software available as an app free to mums as part of the NHS.

The technology has clinical applications in Depression and anxiety beyond maternal health  and is also  applicable to any medical condition that has an impact on the face, for example Alzheimer’s.  We are looking to undertake additional clinical research in 2024 and beyond

BlueSkeye technology has implications beyond health e.g. in the automotive sector.
